The artist way for Kristin has not been a straight forward path.

Kristin Brin - Artist Statement

“Be yourself.” I tell myself this every time I step into my studio, “You are allowed to create anything, anything at all." Yet the business of letting it out for the world to see is a challenge to me, which is surprising to people who know me, as I am very outgoing.

I’ve painted all my life, and over time my work has evolved as I have. Fifteen years ago, I might have brushed off questions about meaning, saying it was simply about the joy of painting. But today, I will share with  you it’s deeper.

My path to creating soft, graceful works was not straightforward. For years, I held back my feminine tendencies toward color, beauty, and elegance, painting with my authentic self kept hidden.

I find beauty in unexpected places, drawing concepts from my imagination and my constant observation of color, line, and form in the world around me. Influences range from my mother Jacqueline to Degas, Kandinsky, O’Keeffe, Mary Weatherford, Helen Frankenthaler, and dear friends who shape my vision.

My work falls within contemporary abstract expressionism, and I’m grateful to create alongside artists exploring the boundlessness of color and perception. My journey has taken courage, and when asked how I’ve made it, I say Progress, progress.
